We took the opportunity to be Silver sponsors at the world’s leading Sensory Science Symposium.
This month, Kate Binner and Lara Rudin attended the Pangborn Sensory Science conference in Nantes, France. This was an amazing opportunity to meet new and potential clients from across the globe. Kate additionally hosted our workshop: ‘The Claims Workshop: How to Win in the Real World’ – which was attended by over 100 delegates and very positively received. Our claims workshop covered how to design effective product claim methodologies, adhere to global best practices, and build strong claims portfolios. This is the perfect session to equip yourself for success in the competitive world of product claims. Sign up for our on-demand version!
The Pangborn Sensory Science Symposium is a premier international event that convenes every two years, gathering experts, academics, and professionals in the world of sensory and consumer science. This conference offers a unique platform to share research, insights, and innovations related to the human senses and how they relate to product experience. Learn more about Pangborn.
Kate had this to say about the conference:
“What a week it has been for myself and Lara… An experience that was nothing short of inspiring and truly enjoyable. Conferences are about connecting with like-minded individuals and a hub for networking… It also gives you the chance to spend time with your current clients – talking about the future, exciting projects, but more importantly socialising and spending quality time together.”
Key takeaways:
- The rising prominence of immersive environments in the sensory sphere.
- A query into the impact of immersion: Does it affect emotional scores? Does it drive greater engagement?
- The potential and pitfalls of voice recognition.
- AI continues to be a consistent presence in many discussions.
- The continuous debate on implicit vs. explicit methodologies.
- The intricacies and applications of Bayesian modelling.
- And so much more!

The Pangborn Conference commemorates the impactful work of Rose Marie Pangborn, a pioneering figure in sensory analysis pertaining to food characteristics. With a significant legacy of over 180 scientific papers, she also guided more than 40 postgraduates in this specialised field. Her notable achievements include the founding of both the Association for Chemoreception Sciences (ACHEMS) and the Sensory Reception Scholarship Fund (SSSF).
For her outstanding research contributions and exceptional teaching prowess, she was awarded the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) William V. Cruess Award in 1977.
In 1980, the IFT distinguished her as a fellow. The University of Helsinki conferred an honorary doctorate upon her in 1984. Four years later, in 1989, the American Society for Testing and Materials’ Committee E-18 on Sensory Evaluation presented her with the ‘Pioneer’ award. Furthermore, her alma mater, Iowa State University, honoured her with the Outstanding Alumna Award in 1971, and New Mexico State University followed with a Distinguished Alumna Award in 1973.
